Art to raise funds

Members of Art South Otago have created an art work made up of 28 15cm-by-15cm individual canvases painted in acrylic by 28 members of Art South Otago. It took two weeks to complete the squares, before they were pieced together.

Art South Otago president Colleen Niovara-Dave said the group wanted to support the Neurological Foundation's $3 million fundraising project.

"We wanted to find a way to raise money for the Neurological Foundation, and thought 'Why not? Let's give it a go.' It all started from there."

Mrs Niovara-Dave said the theme given to each artist was "all things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small".

The art work was first shown to the public and the artists on Friday night at the Owaka Museum, where it was unveiled by Neurological Foundation fundraising project manager Irene Mosley.

"We chose to name the piece Hope because we thought it summed up the campaign," Mrs Niovara-Dave said.

Paper bids were entered on Friday night, but the art work will be auctioned off at a later date and all money raised given to the Neurological Foundation. Anyone interested in making a bid for the artwork can do so by emailing project manager Irene Mosley with their bid and contact details.
